چکیده

Statistical data often come with inconsistencies: records of people with negative ages, pregnant males, and underaged car drivers often populate statistical databases. National Statistical Offices (NSO) encode knowledge to detect these inconsistencies in so-called edit rules. These days, there is an increasing number of statistical data being published and linked on the Web using the RDF Data Cube vocabulary. However, edit rules are hardly ever published together with data cubes on the Web. This causes two important problems: (a) quality of RDF Data Cube data cannot be assessed; and (b) reusability of edit rules is hampered. In this paper we present Linked Edit Rules (LER), a method that makes edit rules Web friendly and reusable as Linked Data. We show that LER can be easily linked, retrieved, reused, combined and executed to check quality and consistency of RDF Data Cubes, opening up the internal NSO validation processes to the Web.

Challenges on Developing Tools for Exploiting Linked Open Data Cubes

A major part of open data provided by international and governmental organizations include facts and figures that are described in a multi-dimensional manner (aka data cubes). The real value, however, of these open data cubes will unveil from combining and exploiting them in analytics across the Web. Linked data paradigm promises to facilitate the realization of this vision. The RDF data cube (...

Balloon Synopsis: A Modern Node-Centric RDF Viewer and Browser for the Web

Nowadays, the RDF data model is a crucial part of the Semantic Web. Especially web developers favour RDF serialization formats like RDFa and JSON-LD. However, the visualization of large portions of RDF data in an appealing way is still a cumbersome task. RDF visualizers in general are not targeting the Web as usage scenario or simply display the complex RDF graph directly rather than applying a...

Converting DB to RDF with Additional Defined Rules

In linked data, web resources and data are represented into RDF. The new web of linked data should be completely machine-understandable. Moreover, since the start of Linking Open Data project, more and more providers publish linked data. Therefore, converting DB into RDF is important because a large amount of web data stored in databases. This work presents an approach for converting DB to RDF ...

Managing distributed statistical data in the semantic web

The RDF Data Cube Vocabulary is the W3C recommendation for publishing multidimensional statistical data in a semantic web format. A large and growing number of such data cubes is already available in the linked data cloud, but the data is distributed and isolated in many remote repositories. Having access to the data, applications can now be developed to explore and use it. To handle and correl...

Tabulator: Exploring and Analyzing linked data on the Semantic Web

A web of linked RDF data may be enabled by standards specifying how links should be made in RDF and under what conditions they should be followed as well as powerful generic RDF browsers that can traverse an open web of RDF resources. The Tabulator is an RDF browser, which is designed both for new users to provoke interest in the Semantic Web and give them a means to access and interact with th...
